This is by far one of my favorite builds so far! Great attention to detail and skill went into making the Porsche 911 not only an incredibly beautiful build, but also technically one of the greatest models I’ve ever had the privilege in building.
I loved this model so much, that I simply had to set up a little mini-shoot for it and capture it’s beauty on film. Enjoy the teaser!
It’s been a few months now since Leo and I have settled into our new home in Centurion. It’s not been without it’s challenges! Shortly after moving in, we realize the roof was going to need much more attention than we originally anticipated.
So the big roof upgrade began. It’s been a few weeks now and most of the work is complete. Most of the work included replacing rotten timber and repairing damaged sections. The next stage, now complete included a board and torch to effectively create a new roof surface. The final parts of the process is about to start, replacing facade boards.
I’ve been quiet the last few months, but as they say, no news is good news… It’s been a very busy few months.
So what’s been happening? Well, AfrikaBurn came and went… what an experience! More about that in a later post.
The really big news is that my partner and I are moving to Centurion! We’re looking forward to a great new home. Our offer was accepted we’re in the process of applying for bond and getting our current place sold. It seems like these days there is such a massive amount of forms to fill out and documentation to collect, it’s quite daunting. But, almost done.
After returning from Turkey, the Million Dollar Pigeon Race was upon me. Every year this is a highlight on my calendar, as we prepare for the main event and everything associated with it. This year the event was held at Monte Casino. I’ve been involved with this event for many, many years, taking care of their admin system and various other aspects of the website.
Well done to Black Envelope Films for producing this incredible liberation video on the day. Beautifully shot and edited in only a few hours, it’s a masterpiece in it’s own right. Maybe one day I’d be so lucky to see a liberation in real life.
The last week since the race has been a little quiet, with a photo shoot here or there, but not much to report otherwise. It’s the silence before the storm.
What a start to the new year! A wonderful trip to Istanbul. The city is an astonishing buzz of activity mixed with sights, sounds and wonderful smells. My friend Laudec and I were met with snow the first few days – certainly a treat, as neither of us experienced snow before. First thing that struck me was how busy the streets were, even late at night. It’s as if the city only come alive after 8 at night. It’s something I am not used to.
Our trip started with a visit to the Bacilica Cisterns, a trip to the Blue Mosque as well as the Hadgia Sofia. We passed by these buildings almost on a daily basis as we didn’t stay too far away from them. On the road down there were plenty of wonderful little restaurants we frequented, with warm welcoming atmospheres and delightfully friendly people.
We spent two days on the Big Bus tour around Istanbul, visiting a couple of wonderful places, of which Miniatürk certainly was a highlight. To see so many historical buildings in such detailed miniatures is admirable work. The best part was seeing a model of the Theatre of Aspendos. Seeing a similar theatre at Pamukkale a few days later at Hierapolis made every hour travelled there worth it. While visiting the ancient site, we spent some time in the hot water springs in Cleopatra’s pool while admiring the thermal pools next to the mountainside.
Other highlights on the trip included visits to Topkapi palace, the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Market. We also tried a few Hamams or Turkish baths. What a mixed bag that was… from good, to bad… to ugly! But nevertheless each an experience. One thing is for sure… it’s certainly worth paying a little extra for the “tourist” experience.
Istanbul is a must-visit with such a rich history and culture and friendly people. I would love to go back some day and explore more of this wonderful country and it’s rich heritage.
Well, it’s certainly been a busy week! Almost everything was overshadowed by the arrival of my niece. She’s a beautiful baby girl with two very proud parents and certainly a very proud family behind her every step of the way.
What an amazing weekend! I flew down on Friday afternoon for a 36 hour whirlwind adventure in Durban with Leo. The evening was spend catching up on the day and an Italian dinner at a small restaurant in Umhlanga Rocks where we would stay for the evening.
The next morning we had a quick breakfast at the hotel before heading down to Umhlanga Rocks for a quick walk on the beach, where I took some photos of sea creatures on the rocks. It’s incredible how we sometimes miss the micro-world around us by being too focussed on the macro world we’re so accustomed to.
Leo was talking about going to Amanzimtoti in his childhood and I suddenly realised that I’ve never been there! So he suggested we take a drive down there and see what it looks like these days. It certainly made a welcome change from the crowded beaches at Durban. The wind was relentlessly blowing all over the place, making for some choppy waves crashing over the beach. We spent a while on the beach and looking out over the ocean on some rocks.
After lunch a trip out to the deep ocean on a catamaran seemed in order, so we headed over the Wilson’s Wharf where we bought a ticket. Unfortunately we coudn’t head out too deep on the ocean, as the waves were really choppy, making for an adventurous ride indeed. It didn’t take long before we got ourselves soaking wet from splashing through all the waves. The ride back into the harbour seemed rather tame compared to the roller coaster ride out.
The rest of the trip consisted of a trip up to the new casino out towards the airport, dinner and a quiet evening relaxing.
I really had an amazing time down in Durban for the day with Leo. What a difference a day can make to just refocus the mind and pepping for a really busy week coming up.
Hi everyone. Yes. I finally did it. I created a blog to talk about my life. I’m nervous and at the same time excited to talk about my life and hope to share many exciting things over time. I have been threatening to do it for a very long time!
So I’m looking forward sharing my life and journey as I am starting my challenge this coming Monday with the original Body for Life. What’s laying ahead? No idea… I’m a little scared of getting started. Things still feel overwhelming and I need to still find a moment to wrap my head around it. But with the help of a few really good friends, I am hoping to come out the other side smiling. Hey, I have nothing to lose. Well the weight maybe. No not maybe, for sure!
More about Body for Life later. It’s a pity its no longer officially supported in South Africa, but it’s still a really good training and eating program to get started with. As I’m making progress I will publish my training and diet info.
So… for now… Looking forward to get going! For the meanwhile, here’s a short background about me.
